Catherine Mitchell is Professor of Energy Policy at the University of Exeter. Previous to that, she worked at the Universities of Warwick, Sussex and California, Berkeley. Her undergraduate degree was in History from London University; her Masters was in Energy and Environmental Studies from Boston University, USA and her PhD was from Sussex University in Technology and Innovation Policy.
Catherine currently holds an Established Career Fellowship with the EPSRC (2012-2016) called Innovation and Governance for a Sustainable Economy (http://projects.exeter.ac.uk/igov/). As part of this, she is taking up Visiting Fellowships at UCal Berkeley and U of Columbia, NY. She will also take up a Visiting Professorship at the Freie University of Berlin from October 2015 for 6 months.
Catherine has been part of many international writing teams (ie a Lead Author in the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report in the Policy and Institutions Chapter of WG3) or research teams (for example, she was PI of an ESRC/EPSRC interdisciplinary research cluster into Energy Security in a Multi-Polar World (2008-2013); she has worked for Governments (ie GB in 2001-2); she has undertaken numerous advisory positions (ie a member of the UK Government’s Energy Advisory Panel (1998-2003); and she has been a member of many boards, such as the Board of the Regulatory Assistance Project which she currently chairs (http://www.raponline.org/).
