SET Plan conference 2015
Research, innovation and competitiveness for the Energy Union

Welcome to the SET Plan conference 2015

Welcome to the SET Plan conference 2015!

We are all stakeholders in the need to transform our use of energy. It is therefore our honour and privilege to invite you to the 8th SET Plan conference, under the Luxembourg’s Presidency of the Council.

Luxembourg’s Presidency is placing the spotlight during the week of 21 and 22 September on European energy policy, research and innovation and the EU’s ambition to capitalise on jobs, competitiveness and growth through an active engagement in the energy transition and the technologies of the future.

We see this event as key to strengthening the work of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) as it allows us to deepen the debate on how to accelerate the energy system transformation through co-ordinated research and initiatives in order to make the European energy technology sector more competitive. It will address ways in which research and innovation can enable the consumer in his role in the energy transition in addition to exploring how R&I can contribute to achieving the EU’s objectives in energy efficiency and renewables.  And finally, it will look more specifically into the opportunities as well as the challenges in financing the energy sector transformation.

We are living through a period of historic, technology-induced, societal changes and following the quantum leap of mobile phone and modern telecommunication, the next major advance could well stem from changes in the sphere of energy. This is the focus of this year’s SET Plan conference and we are looking forward to your active participation in the conference and contribution to this important debate.

Yours sincerely,

Étienne Schneider
Minister of the Economy

Marc Hansen
Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research

The 8th SET Plan conference will take place on 21-22 September 2015 at the European Convention Centre Luxembourg, during the Luxembourg’s Presidency of the European Union Council.

myenergy GIE, the national structure for energy consultancy, on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Housing, is hosting this 2015 edition of the SET Plan conference with the support of the European Commission.

The conference will represent a unique forum for all stakeholders to exchange information on new developments in the SET-Plan (Strategic Energy Technology Plan) in response to the great energy challenges ahead of the European Union. It will be held back-to-back with the informal council of the Energy Ministers in Luxembourg, thereby placing research and innovation in energy at the heart of Luxembourg’s Council Presidency.

The European Commission’s Energy Union strategy, adopted in February 2015, dedicates one of its five dimensions to research, innovation and competitiveness. The integrated SET-Plan will play a central role in a new European energy R&I approach designed to accelerate the energy system transformation.

During the one and a half days of the conference, participants will be able to engage in the debate around the importance of R&I in realising the European Union’s key energy policy targets and building the Energy Union. Achievements will be reviewed, innovative technologies showcased and new strategies will be presented to help reach these ambitious targets in order to meet the R&I energy challenges.

All registered  and confirmed participants are invited to a gala dinner on Monday 21 September, starting at 7.15pm which, in conjunction with other networking opportunities, will enable them to reflect upon the conference sessions and to discuss possible outcome and conclusions.

Regsitration to the conference is now closed.
